Here's a quick recap of the tourney. River Monsters win again going undefeated. Cruz and Delano abandon the Super Strokers leave Jimmy Cole in last place. The PowerBar Bros tandem of Mike VanNostrand and Ron West show they still got it. LaValley shows up and doesn't suck. Last but not least Brett Delano wins MVP with his off the field performance of grill and smoker extraordinaire. But lets go over each team quick. The River Monsters tandem of Kris Morse and Nate Cruz (brothers? who really knows) go 3-0-1 on the day to up their 2018 record to 9-0-1. They did so with an offensive assault at the plate and timely pitching. Not much to really look into here, they are just good. The Diamond Dawgs team consisted of Colonie Wiffles Most Wanted with Casey and Cory Schoonmaker along with ginger scrub Anferny LaValley. They finished the day 3-1 with their lone loss in the finals and made it there by the dominance of Casey Schoon on the carpet and behind the offensive bag of LaValley. The 3 man team definitely helped on the defensive side but when the River Monsters just hit bombs it doesn't really matter. Next we have a tie for 3rd between the Walk Off Warriors and Pitches Be Cray. The Walk Off Warriors finished 1-1-1 on the day with gutsy pitching performances from The Moose Knuckle Ron West and a gun show from Magic Mike VanNostrand. Moosey racked up the strikeouts and help potent lineups in check while Mike made it rain but they came up just short in the semi final game against the Monstars. On the Pitches Be Cray side, led by Super Strokers defective Brett Delano, they went a very respectable 2-2 on the day. The team also consisted of a guy named Sam and a dud Chris Hess but both were mostly non factors. This was Brett's team and not only did he have 2 wins on the mound against his former team, he smoked 4 racks of ribs to peak deliciousness and for that, he is the tournament MVP. Last and definitely least were the Super Strokers. The above picture really says it all. They weren't here to really compete and they lost both the battle on the field (going 0-3 on the day) and versus the sun. With a ragtag team of Jimmy Cole, Vanessa Kardashian, and Matt Baitinger, it was amazing they made it through 3 games at all. The Super Strokers are nothing without Cruz and Delano but did have a better trash talk game thanks to a perfectly inebriated Vanessa slinging slurs at the opposition to keep them off-balance all day. Other Super Strokers missing from today were Chris Meador (busy saving lives) and Tom Gannon (passing his bong around or something).
Thanks everyone for a great day and braving the heat! Next tournament will be a big one, The Ship, on August 4th! Here's a few more pics from the day below.
