The 'Ship Rulebook
*All rules not specified will look to the NWLA rulebook.
Regulations:
1. Pitch counts will be 5 balls and 3 strikes.
2. The mound will be 45 feet to home plate
3. The strike zone will be 2.5 feet behind home plate.
4. Balls will be supplied. No cutting of the balls are allowed.
5. Games will be 4 innings long. There are no ties in the playoffs, extra innings are awarded until there is a winner.
6. The mercy rule per game will be 15 after 2 innings.
7. If a team forfeits, the result of the game will be a 15-0 loss.
8. A minimum of 3 players and a maximum of 6.
9. There are no extra innings in round robin. A draw will be given if score is tied after 4
10. Win/Loss record will dictate playoff seeding, followed by run differential, then head to head.
11. Only unmodified original Wiffle brand bats may be used. Tape may only be used on the grip and handle of the bat and must not cover the hole at the bottom. No additional weight can be added to the bat. Any generation Wiffle bat is allowed besides the first gen wooden bat.
Pitching:
1. There is no pitching speed restrictions. The pitcher may throw as fast or slow as they want
2. There is no innings limit/rotation rules in effect.
3. A pitcher may NOT reenter a game as a pitcher after being taken off the mound.
4. A pitcher may NOT scuff/cut/dirty a game ball. If this is caught the pitcher is ejected from the game up and to forfeiting the game.
5. The pitcher must have a foot in contact with the rubber throughout their pitching motion. ie no jumping, crow hopping during windup. Will result in a ball if done.
Batting:
1.
a. A maximum of 6 batters is allowed. The max lineup size is 6.
b. No DH is permitted for ANY position. All fielders/pitchers must bat.
c. Extra hitters are allowed to fill out the remaining of the batting order. These players do not have to play the field.
d. If a player is injured or must leave, no penalty is given unless you are below 3 total batters. Then an automatic out will be given in place of that batter.
e. Batting out of order will result in an out. That batter will be skipped and the next batter will be up.
i. Batting out of order can only be called by the end of the next at bat.
f. The batter must be in the batter’s box and have no body parts in the path of the strike zone. If a batter interferes, an automatic strike will be called. The second offence in a game will result in an out.
Base Running:
1. The batter will be the only live runner. Upon a ball hit in the field of play, the batter must run. If he reaches safely before the fielders can return the ball to the "Out Circle" or bag, the runner is safe.
2. Once a batter is deemed safe, he will become a ghost runner. The ghost runner will then advance on the following clauses:
a. The ghost runner will advance one base if:
I. A walk is given
II. A ball is put in play, with the batter being safe at first. The ghost runner advances as many bases as the batter.
III. A ball that rolls to the fence, the ghost runner/s advance 2 bases
IV. A ball that hits the fence in the air, the ghost runner/s advance 3 bases
V. A tag is called and the throw is unsuccessful.
VI. A home run is hit.
3. A tag must be called and announced before the current at bat.
Fielding:
1. Outs may be recorded the following ways
a. Ball is caught in the air before it touches the ground in the field of play.
b. A fielder fields the ball and steps on a base before a batter or ghostrunner on force plays.
c. A fielder fields the ball within the pitcher's circle before the batter advances to a base.
I. If a ghostrunner was forced to a base, the lead force is out.
II. If there was no force and the batter was out, the runner holds.
d. The batter is pegged with the ball in the air by either a fielder or batter.
i. Play is dead once a baserunner is hit with the ball.
ii. If hit by batter and the runner is out of play, it is a foul ball.
e. If the ball was fouled into the strike zone on the 3rd strike.
f. A ball thrown in the air into the strike zone on a called tag.
2. If a tag is called on a fly ball, the fielder must catch the ball before it hits the ground, throw the ball at the backstop in the air to hold the runner. If the any part of the strike zone is hit in the air, the tagging runner will be out.
3. A ball thrown out of play will grant all base runners the base they were heading towards plus one base.
4. Fielders in play: 1 pitcher and 2 fielders may be in the field. No more, no less.
